After long break

I didn’t submit any of my shodo to Nihon Shuji for a while, maybe almost a year. Now I would like to get back to my routine again, but it seems like a long way to bring my writing skill back. I just need to practice !

Results for Kohitsuten硬筆展 Kanbaiten 観梅展 2024

It was fortunate for us to spend winter break in Japan this year. We had traditional Japanese new year with my family and prayed for having another great year.

Takasaki Kannon

When we were back home in WV, many mails waited for us and one of them was from Nihon Shuji. It was the results for Kohitsuten and Kanbaiten. WV

I’m very thankful that we can still participate these Japanese shodo events from U.S. and hope to keep participating next year.

Kanbaiten & Kohitsuten

It’s been a while since my last post again. I had hard time to get back writing routine, and I didn’t submit my works to Nihon Shuji for almost 6 months. I renewed my subscription, wrote some occasionally, but just didn’t have any energy to pack and submit.

So Kohitsuten and Kanbaiten are perfect occasion to force myself and submit to Japan.

This year nine friends joined for Kohitsuten works and I really appreciate their time and efforts.

For Kanbaiten, I found old Jofuku (bigger size) Otehon from my shodo teacher. I only spent for two nights, but I decided to submit anyway to have something to look back my life as my personal record.

Japanese corporate culture

One of August assignments for pen calligraphy was a message to colleagues. It is simple, but nicely gave complement towards project kickoff. 8

In the message, there is a word “同期”, which is very Japanese-like word. It is similar to “colleagues” or “co-worker” in English, but includes special meanings that she/he graduated the school and started to work in same company, in same year.

The last Bokuga submission

I just made a packet to send Nihon Shuji for March assignment. With a newborn, I couldn’t do much, but at least I finished Bokuga (Japanese ink painting) assignments.

Scenery with bridges
Monkey

When I started to make a packet, I noticed that my last submission passed the 中伝 level, and I had to submit 奥伝 assignments! I didn’t have much time, but I managed to draw at least one.

Adios
Cherry blossom at night

Bokuga program is closing and this March is the last assignment submission. I only took this program for 3 years, but I really enjoyed.

I found Japanese ink painting is very soothing and brings me so much joy, and I hope to find new learning materials so that I can keep drawing whatever inspires me.

Name-giving Ceremony

I am even not sure I post about my pregnancy in my shodo blog… so this might be surprise for some of you. I had a baby boy last week.

There is Japanese tradition of name-giving ceremony on the seventh day after the birth of a child. (Oshichiya お七夜) We decided Kanji character for our son and wrote his name, his birthday, and parents name.

I was super tired and sleepy…

風 wind

I chose “wind” as a Kanji character for 2023 calendar. I hope that my shodo works will contribute somewhat to refresh other’s minds with positive vibe.

Kohitsuten2022 Result

I just received Kohitsuten result for this year.

I couldn’t submit my work, but my students managed to do, and I’m very proud of them.

Thank you for visiting my shodo blog and let’s level up!
