I just received Kohitsuten result for this year. 硬筆展の結果が届きました。
I couldn’t submit my work, but my students managed to do, and I’m very proud of them. 今年、残念ながら私は出品できませんでしたが、7名の生徒さんが参加してくれました。今回惜しくも入賞者はいませんでしたが、忙しい中、出品した皆さん、立派です。

It has been a while since my last post… I had busy summer. Now may be little late, but please let me share Kohitsuten and Kanbaiten information. 久しぶりの投稿になりましてすいません。今年の夏は忙しく、あっという間に硬筆展と観梅展の時期、というよりも締め切り間近になってしまいました。
2022 is the year for Kohitsuten and Kanbaiten. Kohitsuten is public exhibition and anybody can submit their pencil or pen calligraphy works. Kanbaiten is mainly for Nihon Shuji teachers and adult learners, and they can submit their larger works like Hansetsu and Zenshi size. Due for both exibition is September 20th. 2022年は硬筆展と観梅展の年です。硬筆展は公募展で、どなたでも硬筆作品を出品できます。一方観梅展は日本習字で学ぶ成人の生徒さんや先生が対象で、半切や全紙など、大きめの作品を出品できます。どちらも受付締切は9月20日まで。
This year, some of my students sent their works to Kohitsuten (thank you!) and I tried Kanbaiten. 今年は生徒さんが硬筆展に、私は観梅展に挑戦しました。

Kakizome, first calligraphy writing of the year, is one of Japanese traditions for New Year. Yesterday I had 3 online Kakizome sessions. 昨日はオンライン書き初め三昧の日でした。
Two Kakizome sessions with kids as part of calligraphy lessons and one session for Nihon Shuji Online events. 子供たちとのお稽古が2回、日本習字主催の書き初め大会がその後ありました。
I have done online lessons using Zoom, but I never used MS Teams and I was bit worried. However the other participants and observers helped me in the sessions and everything went well. ズームではオンラインのお稽古をした事はあるのですが、ティームスでは初めてでそこが不安でしたが無事に終わりました。参加者の家族や見学の方が上手に回してくださったおかげでした、感謝。
In the evening, I participated online Kakizome hosted by Nihon Shuji. Somehow I miss calculated the time difference between U.S. Eastern and Japan, and almost missed it, but I made it. 夜(日本時間では午前)には日本習字の書き初め大会がありましたが、時差を計算し間違えていて、ギリギリの参加となりました。反省、、、
And… of course cats wanted to evaluate… そして猫がいつも通りうろうろしていました。

Yesterday I received the result of Nihon Shuji Exhibition. (We sometime call it Ni Shu Ten as short in Japanese. ) 今年の日本習字展(日習展)の結果が、昨日返ってきました。
It is a public open call exhibition and held biannually. This year I challenged myself by submitting Kaisho (print form) and also spent a month for preparation and practice. 日習展は公募展で、近年では2年に1度開催されています。今年は苦手な楷書で挑戦し、前回よりは練習時間も多く費やして準備しました。
The result was … same. I received Shu Saku Sho again. It is better than not winning any, but I hoped a higher prize, so I have a mixed feeling. 結果は前回と同じ、秀作賞でした。何もないより良いのですが、出来ればより上位の賞を目指していました。半分嬉しいような、でも満足できていないような、、、。
Well, I just need to practice! 練習あるのみのようです。

Today, November 2nd, is Shodo day. It was a year ago today, I started this Shodo blog, and I’m glad that I still keep posting my work here. 11月2日はいい文字にちなんで、習字の日です。1年前の今日、当ブログを始め、今も書道に関する徒然を書くことができ嬉しく思います。
