Reception at local museum
There was the opening reception for Ukiyoe (Japanese printing) exhibition at Huntington Museum of Art in West Virginia.
Marshall university’s JOI coordinator kindly invited me to set up Shodo demonstration to join Origami tables.
Until June, the museum also featured our calligraphy works in their educational center.
This is the first opportunity for my Shodo students to display their works in public! I am very excited and thankful for all support we got for this collaborative display.

Kakizome2022 書き初め
Kakizome, first calligraphy writing of the year, is one of Japanese traditions for New Year. Yesterday I had 3 online Kakizome sessions. 昨日はオンライン書き初め三昧の日でした。
Two Kakizome sessions with kids as part of calligraphy lessons and one session for Nihon Shuji Online events. 子供たちとのお稽古が2回、日本習字主催の書き初め大会がその後ありました。
I have done online lessons using Zoom, but I never used MS Teams and I was bit worried. However the other participants and observers helped me in the sessions and everything went well. ズームではオンラインのお稽古をした事はあるのですが、ティームスでは初めてでそこが不安でしたが無事に終わりました。参加者の家族や見学の方が上手に回してくださったおかげでした、感謝。
In the evening, I participated online Kakizome hosted by Nihon Shuji. Somehow I miss calculated the time difference between U.S. Eastern and Japan, and almost missed it, but I made it. 夜(日本時間では午前)には日本習字の書き初め大会がありましたが、時差を計算し間違えていて、ギリギリの参加となりました。反省、、、
And… of course cats wanted to evaluate… そして猫がいつも通りうろうろしていました。

2022 Calendar
I was very surprised to know that 😳 Avocado = Alligator Pear. 😳 I don’t want to forget this shock and I wrote it for 2022 calendar for myself. 🐊 🍐 🥑
1部余ってたカレンダー、自分で使うことにしました。
アボカドが本当は英語でAlligator Pearワニ梨というのに衝撃を受けたのと、その気持ちというか、驚きを忘れたくなくて、書いてみました。

Shodo-thon Day1 Sushi 寿司ネタ
Before end of this year, I wanted to start Shodo-thon again. Shodo-thon is a word something I made up “Shodo” + “marathon” and hope to keep up with writing calligraphy and posting about Shodo everyday like inktober. 年の明ける前に、今年も勝手に書道マラソン始めました。
I experimented calligraphy and ink painting together, and it turns out to be small sushi menu. 何か墨画も一緒のものが書きたくて、お寿司のネタを書いてみました。
This small sushi art was paired with 2022 calendar and will be sent to my favorite local sushi restaurant. こちらはカレンダーに貼り付けて、私の大好きなお寿司屋さんへ。
